The Cobb has been in
existence since 1250.
The present Cobb was
built in the 1820's.
In 1980 the Cobb featured in the film 'The French Lieutenant's
Woman' with Meryl Steep.
The cannons on the north wall date from 1600 and have
a Tudor Rose stamped on the barrels.
The
famous steps known as Granny's Teeth.The
steps have been used to recreate Louisa Musgrove's fall
in Jane Austin's novel Persuasion. However the book predates
the building of the steps.
The Marine Aquarium is situated on the Cobb. Inside
you will find displays of local fish of Lyme Bay. Tools
of the trade, a history of the Cobb, a photographic display
of 'The French Lieutenant's Woman' and a gift shop.
The Cobb is an
interesting place to visit whatever the weather. However,
extreme caution should be taken when the waves are high.
